Minimum Wages Act, 1948

Purpose

The main object of Minimum Wages Act 1948 to ensure that the employee can have the basic physical needs, good health and a level of comfort. To ensure a secure and adequate living wage for all laborers in the interest of the public. To ensure that the employee has enough to provide for his family.

Applicability

It is applicable to all the state of India except the government sector as well as the private sector who have their own pay scale.

Minimum Rate of Wage

Appropriate Government (Central or State, as the case may be) has authority to fix the minimum rate of wages in respect of employment specified in Part I & II of the Schedule to the Act.
