The major objective of the Act was to provide certain benefits to employees and their family members in case of sickness, maternity and injury (during employment).
The ESI scheme is applicable to all factories and other establishments as defined in the Act, within the implement area with 10 or more persons employed in such establishment.
Employees drawing salary / wages not exceeding Rs. 21000/- per month are covered under the provisions of ESI Act.
